NEW DAWN MIDWIFERY HOLIDAY NEWS LETTER 2011

A big, wonderful, warm holiday hug to all New Dawn ladies and families, moms, dads, babies, siblings, grandparents, friends, to all who have been part of the miracle of birth and of wholistic care for women. We love and appreciate you all.

We have had a wonderful year with so many amazing stories, some changes, some wishes for the future. Our hearts go out to those who have suffered losses. We remember you and hope you are well.

We have had two changes in the midwifery roster. Brigette’s family decided not to leave the frozen tundra so she returned to them in Minnesota. We miss her and wish her well.

Our beloved Alisa is out with, if you haven’t heard, TRIPLETS!! We feel we are triply blessed and are all so looking forward to the births of the (all) boys. Alisa, is doing well. We were reluctant to see her leave New Dawn, but, as always, our wish is for a healthy mom and babies.

Kelly left New Dawn to pursue business with her partner, and if you haven’t tried the cuisine from their food truck, you should. Chris is working part time with our good friends at Home Grown spending time with her girls and attending school in September to complete the requirements to teach in NC. Lucky students!! We miss her and wish her well.

New to the New Dawn family is Angie Logan, CNM. Although she began with us in August just out of midwifery school, she may be new to some of you. We are so proud of our “baby” midwife, now graduated to being independent and doing a terrific job of attending our families. We have also found her to be a sensitive and humorous writer.

Our newest midwife, Ellen Howard, CNM, is fully credentialed with Mission and attending births under the watchful eye of Meg. Ellen graduated ECU over a year ago and worked in Sylva for a year. We are so fortunate to have her at New Dawn and look forward to seeing her grow in her role here.

The “old timers” include our steadfast Martha, RN, who is so much more than the office nurse. You’ve met her in an interview, taking a history, drawing blood, calling you with lab results and appointments, assisting at your birth and in general, keeping all of us on track and remembering our mission. She is working hard on finishing her BSN and then midwifery school. Yay, what a midwife she will be. I hope we can bring her back to New Dawn.

Meg Stoyle-Corby, CNM, most definitely is our senior midwife these days as she shepherds the new midwives in their orientations, showing them how it’s done at Mission and at home and generally keeping the rest of us on our toes. With her vast experience and insight, she is a treasure.

We are grateful for Kirstin’s assistance (once again). With her baby, Asher, only a year old and Skya and Eilee being their adorable and active selves, Kirstin stepped in again to make sure we could see everyone in the office.

New at the front desk (and that sweet voice on the telephone) is Betsy Causey. She is a delight to talk with and if she can’t give you an answer immediately, she will get back with you ASAP. Besides answering the telephone, she schedules everyone, helps with labs, handles faxes (incoming and outgoing), keeps the charts up to date, makes copies and the list goes on and on.

We are so fortunate to have Marcia Sierra in the back office keeping up with insurance, helping clients with plans and communicating with our billing service. Marcia has been a quick learner in a very demanding position. We are very pleased to have her.

We also want to remember our birth assistants Christie Satterfield and Huma Alvarado. As you may know, Christie has had extensive training in midwifery and is now studying at Frontier Midwifery School while still assisting at New Dawn births and working at Mission. Huma is a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife) and has been a primary midwife for births in Texas. She also works for the Forest Service.

A note of recognition goes Dr. John Cuellar, our wonderful consultant for nearly two years. He has been steadfast in supporting our efforts to offer true midwifery service. We are so fortunate to have him and his new partner, Dr. Jamie Ramsey who is as sweet and kind as she looks and sounds (in addition to being an excellent OB).

We salute the labor and delivery nurses at Mission. They also make our service possible. We tell all our clients that we can have a rich and fulfilling experience at Mission. Our community is lucky to have Mission and their Women’s Services.

And me, well, yes, I’m still here, thrilled to hear from you, to see you in the waiting room or when you drop by for a visit. I’m seeing clients and keeping up with the business end while being on stand-by for the occasional births. I am indeed blessed to know all of the folks who have made New Dawn what it is and most especially to know the families who choose us. Thank you for all your support.

Have a happy and joyous holiday. May you each and every one be blessed.

Jan
