Welcome to New Dawn Midwifery

NEW DAWN MIDWIFERY is a full-scope midwifery practice in Asheville, NC, providing holistic midwifery and well-woman gynecological care to women throughout their life cycle. We serve women and their families in Buncombe and surrounding counties of Western North Carolina.

Women of any age, facing their first (or subsequent pregnancies), who need a knowledgeable, sensitive provider and friend, find that unique combination with the midwives and staff at New Dawn.  We consider clients to be part of the New Dawn family.

We delight in caring for women during pregnancy, labor and delivery, post-partum and breastfeeding. Whether at home or at Mission Hospital, we provide high touch, low tech, loving and expert care during this most vulnerable time in the life of a woman and her family.

Adolescents seeking their first gynecological visit are welcomed as we address the many issues young women face today.  We discuss life-style concerns as well as Family Planning and well-woman primary care needs

As part of our well-woman care, we do annual physicals and PAP smears, prescribe contraceptives, provide peri-menopausal care and discuss life-style issues. We also offer testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections for our clients.

Our consulting physician is Dr. John Cuellar of Asheville OB GYN.  We find he understands and appreciates the midwifery model of care while being able to provide the medical model if needed.

NEW DAWN is dedicated to optimal health care through all cycles of a woman’s life with commitment to a wellness model that includes the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of care. We believe that empowerment for a woman is enhanced with education and support as she moves through the unique experiences of her life.

NEW DAWN began in May of 1997 as the fulfillment of a dream of Jan Verhaeghe, CNM, and Nancy Koerber, CPM, who attended home births together in Western North Carolina during the 1980’s and into the 90‘s.

We invite prospective clients to come, at no charge, for a thirty minute interview with one of the midwives or staff members to learn more about our services.
